시놉시스Synopsis
전문가들에 의하면 커피에는 세 가지 풍미가 있다고 한다: 쓴맛, 신맛, 그리고 향. 멀고도 가까운 세 지역에서 일어나는 이야기들이 커피의 정취에 담겨 펼쳐진다. 도둑 맞은 커피 포트를 되찾아야만 하는 벨기에의 ‘하메드’, 박봉에 시달리는 이탈리아의 바리스타 ‘렌조’, 그리고 중국의 대표적 커피 생산지인 윈난 출신의 유능한 젊은 회사원 ‘페이’. 이 세 사람의 운명은 인종 갈등, 경제 불안, 생태계 위협 등 세계가 마주하고 있는 각종 문제들의 해법을 찾으려는 노력과 복잡하게 얽혀 있다.
Sommeliers say that coffee has three flavors: bitter, sour and scented. Through the common element of such an evocative product, the film tells three stories set in three parts of the world very far from each other yet close. A stolen coffee pot seeker in Belgium, an underpaid coffee sommelier in Italy, and a young manager from coffee-producing region of China. The three destinies intertwine until a final resolution expressing the fragility and the challenges of our world among racial clashes, economic uncertainty, and ecological emergency.
감독Director
시나리오 작가이자 감독이다. 1991년 뉴욕대학교 졸업 후 지금까지 6편의 장편영화와 여러 편의 상을 받은 다큐멘터리들을 연출했다. 그가 감독한 <천국의 속삭임>은 2007년 도나텔로상을 포함하여 25개 국제영화제에서 대상을 수상했다. ‘단편영화 만드는 법’을 공동 집필했으며 북경영화학교를 비롯한 다수의 국제영화학교 및 워크숍에서 영화 시나리오 및 연출을 가르친 바 있다.
Graduated in 1991 from New York University, till now he directed 6 feature films and several award-winning documentaries. His film Red like the Sky won a David di Donatello film Award in 2007 and Best film at more than 25 international film festivals. BORTONE co-authored the manual “How to make a short film” and taught directing and screenwriting in several other international film schools and workshops including the Beijing Film Academy.
