시놉시스Synopsis
먹는 것을 보면 그 사람을 알 수 있다는 말이 있는데, 그 말대로라면 우리는 지금 정체성의 위기를 겪고 있다고 볼 수 있다. 농장에서 출발해 그릇에 놓이기까지 음식이 이동하는 과정이 이상하기 때문이다. 동물들과 소박하게 살아가는 한 노파. 그녀는 동물들을 사랑하지만, 도축해서 음식으로 먹는다. 마을 사람들은 노파와 음식 사이의 친밀한 관계에 처음에는 매료되었다가 나중에는 혐오감을 느끼게 된다. 대사 없이 이미지로만 이루어진 영화.
If we are what we eat, then we are having an identity crisis. Because food's journey from farm to plate is a strange one. An old woman has a simple relationship with her animals: she loves them, kills them, eats them. In town, people are first fascinated, then repulsed, by the intimacy between the old woman and their food. A film without words.

1964년 캐나다 퀘벡주 버킹엄에서 태어났다. 캐나다에서 그래픽 아트를 전공하고 프랑스에서 미술을 공부했다. 캐나다 국립영화위원회의 권유로 애니메이션을 시작했다. 그녀는 1994년 캐나다 국립영화위원회의 프랑스 애니메이션 스튜디오가 주최한 씨네아스트 리서치 대회에서 우승했다. 이를 통해 그녀는 오존층 고갈을 유머러스하게 그려낸 첫 단편 애니메이션 <Under the Weather>(1997)를 연출하게 된다. 그녀는 2002년작 <피루엣>에서 또 다른 사회적 문제인 인간과 인간이 먹는 것 사이의 단절을 탐구한다. 탈리의 캐리커처는 모양과 움직임이 우스꽝스럽고 엉뚱한 캐릭터들을 만들어내기도 하지만, 그녀의 만화는 사회적 비평의 역할도 해내고 있다.
Born in 1964 in Buckingham (Québec). tali studied graphic arts in Canada and fine arts in France. The National Film Board of Canada encouraged her to try her hand at animation. She won the “Cinéaste recherché(e) competition held by NFB’s French Animation Studio in 1994. This gave her the opportunity to direct her first animated short <Under the Weather> (1997) which approaches with humour the depletion of the ozone layer. In <Pirouette> (2002) tali explores another social issue, the disconnection between man and what he eats. tali’s flair for caricature results in characters whose shapes and movements are both comical and absurd, yet her cartoons also serve as social critiques.
