시놉시스Synopsis
국빈급 요리를 담당해온 최고의 요리사였으나 은퇴한 주사부는 미혼인 딸을 셋 둔 홀아비이다. 교사인 맏딸 가진은 실연의 상처 때문에 연애를 멀리하고, 항공사에서 일하며 애인이 있는 둘째 가천은 집에서 독립하려 한다. 막내 가령은 주사부가 싫어하는 패스트푸드점에서 아르바이트를 한다. 주사부가 점점 미각을 잃어간다는 사실을 받아들이지 못하는 가운데, 장성한 딸들은 차례로 독립을 선언한다. 시대에 따라 변화하는 가치관과 세대간의 갈등을 다룬 리안 감독의 초기 걸작으로, 1995년 아카데미 외국어영화상 부문 후보에 오른 작품. 다채로운 중국 요리의 향연이 오감을 자극하는 음식 영화의 고전이다.
Renowned master chef Chu is a widower and lives with his three grown daughters; Jia-Jen is a school teacher nursing a broken heart who converted to Christianity. Jia-Chien, the middle one, is an airline executive and plans to move out of the house. The youngest, Jia-Ning, is a college student who also works in a fast food restaurant. Each Sunday Mr. Chu makes a glorious banquet for his daughters, each of whom challenges any narrow definition of traditional Chinese culture.

아카데미 수상경력을 가진 감독, 프로듀서, 작가. 1954년 대만에서 태어나 대만예술대학을 졸업한 후 미국으로 건너가 일리노이대학교와 뉴욕대학교에서 영화를 전공했다. 1992년 <쿵후 선생>으로 데뷔한 후 <결혼 피로연>과 <음식남녀>를 연출하며 연이어 아카데미 후보 지명을 받았다. 이후 <센스 앤 센서빌리티>가 아카데미 최우수작품상 후보에 올랐고 <아이스 스톰>, <와호장룡> 등을 발표하며 아카데미를 비롯해 다수의 영화상을 수상하면서 거장의 반열에 올랐다. 2013년 <라이프 오브 파이>가 흥행에도 성공하며 두 번째 아카데미 감독상을 수상했다.
Ang LEE is an Academy Award-winning director, producer and screenwriter. Born 1954 in Taiwan, he attended the National Taiwan College of Arts and then at the University of Illinois and NYU. He made his directorial debut in 1992 with Pushing Hands and earned Academy Award nominations for his next two films, The Wedding Banquet and Eat Drink Man Woman. Later films include Sense and Sensibility, for which LEE earned an Academy Award nomination for best picture; The Ice Storm, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, for which he received four Oscars, four BAFTA Awards, a Golden Globe Award for best director. Seven years later, in 2013, LEE picked up his second Academy Award for directing Life of Pi.
