서울국제음식영화제

1961년 러시아 상트페테르부르크 출생. 혁신적인 다큐멘터리를 선보이며 국내외 영화제에서 100여 개 이상의 상을 수상한 거장이다. 그의 영화는 다양한 주제들을 폭넓게 다루는 동시에 언제나 현실과 시적인 순간 사이의 상호작용을 섬세하게 포착한다. 레닌그라드 다큐멘터리 스튜디오에서 일하면서 영화계에 입문했으며, 1986년부터 1988년까지 Moscow HCSF에서 각본과 연출을 공부했다. 1992년 <벨로프씨 가족들>이 암스테르담국제다큐멘터리영화제(IDFA)에서 요리스이벤스 상과 관객상 동시 수상을 비롯 수많은 영화제에서 수상하며 명성을 얻기 시작했고, 2011년 작품인 <지구 반대편의 초상>은 같은 해 베니스영화제의 개막작으로 선정되기도 했다. <아쿠아렐라>는 2018년 베니스영화제에서 처음으로 상영됐으며 이후 아카데미 영화상 다큐멘터리 후보에 선정됐다. 그는 현재 베를린에 거주하며 젊은 감독들과 다큐멘터리 제작자들의 스승이자 멘토로 세계 다양한 곳에서 활동하고 있다.

Born in Saint Petersburg in 1961, Victor Kossakovsky is an innovative documentary filmmaker and his films have been honored with more than 100 awards in international festivals. His distinctive filmography spans many different subjects but always explores the interplay of reality and poetic moments. He began his career in motion pictures at the Leningrad Studio of Documentaries. He studied screenwriting and directing at Moscow HCSF from 1986 to 1988. In 1992 he made his name with <The Belovs>, which won numerous awards including both VPRO Joris Ivens Award and the Audience Award at IDFA. In 2011, his <Long Live the Antipodes!> was selected as the opening film of the Venice Film Festival. <Aquarela> was also premiered in Venice in 2018 before being shortlisted for the Oscar for Best Documentary. Currently based in Berlin, he continues to serve as a teacher and mentor to aspiring filmmakers and documentarians globally.
