시놉시스Synopsis

매년 세상에는 새로운 ‘슈퍼푸드’가 등장해 놀라운 영양성분과 효능을 자랑하며 소비자의 구매를 유도하곤 한다. <슈퍼푸드의 이면>은 슈퍼푸드 이면의 사실과 신화를 파고들면서, 슈퍼푸드 산업이 세계 곳곳의 농어민들에게 어떠한 영향을 끼치는지를 탐색하는 장편 다큐멘터리다. 볼리비아, 에티오피아, 필리핀, 그리고 캐나다의 하이다과이 등 4개 국가에서 촬영된 영화는 각지의 멋진 풍경과 함께 그곳에서 살아가는 농어민 가족의 이야기를 담아낸다. 슈퍼푸드 산업이 먹거리 안전성과 건강, 지속가능한 농업, 먹거리 공정무역 실태에 뜻하지 않게 끼치는 영향 등을 통해 슈퍼푸드의 세계화라는 거시적인 문제를 조명하는 작품. 먹거리가 아이들에게 주는 즐거움 등 일상생활을 영화적으로 포착하는 한편, 세계적인 슈퍼푸드 소비를 둘러싼 문제들을 진지하게 파헤친다.

Every year, the western world is introduced to a new ‘superfood’ that boasts extraordinary nutritional features, and year after year we buy them. The Superfood Chain is a feature documentary that explores the facts and myths behind superfoods, and reveals the ripple effect of the ‘superfood’ industry on farming and fishing families around the world. Shot on location in four countries, the film features the lush landscapes of Bolivia, Ethiopia, Philippines, and Haida Gwaii in Canada, following four farming and fishing families. The documentary examines the larger issues around globalization of superfoods, including unintended effects on food security and health, sustainable farming, and fair trade food practices. With cinematic ‘day-in-the-life’ photography, the film not only follows the kids and captures the joy that food gives to these children, but also explores the serious issues around global demand of superfoods.
