시놉시스Synopsis
제2차 세계대전 직후, 로마 중심부에 위치한 오텔로의 식당은 젊은 감독들과 시나리오 작가들의 만남의 장소가 되었다. 그곳에서 네오리얼리즘, 코메디아 알리탈리아나 등 이탈리아 영화의 아름다운 페이지들이 시작되었다. 이 영화는 오텔로 식당을 세계적으로 유명하게 만든 예술가들에 대한 사적인 추억들을 통해 영화사의 한 시대를 기념한다. 말론 브란도, 그레고리 펙, 오드리 헵번, 로버트 드니로, 프란시스 포드 코폴라, 장 루이 트랭티낭, 장 클로드 카리에, 클로드 샤브롤, 로제 바딤, 브리짓 바르도 등 세계적인 배우들, 감독들, 작가들이 이곳을 찾곤 했다.
Right in the center of Rome, immediately after second World War, Otello’s restaurant became the meeting point of a group of young directors and screenwriters. Among those very tables they would conceive some of the most beautiful pages of “Neo-realism” and “Commedia all’italiana”. Otello’s Secret celebrates that particular season of cinema through the personal recollections of the artists who have contributed to Otello’s international fame with their own special craft. Actors, directors and writers from the international scene like Brando, Peck, Hepburn, De Niro, Coppola, and the french Trintignant, Carrière, Chabrol, Vadim, Bardot and many more would visit the restaurant.

1993년 장편 영화 <Abyssinia>가 칸영화제 비평가주간에 선정되었으며, 다비드디도나텔로상을 수상했다. 니콜로 암마니티의 소설을 원작으로 하는 1998년작 <Branchie>는 베니스영화제에서 상영되었고 2007년 참여한 다큐멘터리 프로젝트 <Lettere dalla Palestina>는 베를린영화제에 선정되었다. 2012년, 이탈리아 최고의 각본가를 다룬 다큐멘터리 <Furio Scarpelli: Il Racconto Prima di Tutto>는 토리노영화제에서 나스트리 다르젠토 후보로 지명되기도 했다. 2009년부터 2011년까지 EFA 이사회 멤버를 역임한 바 있으며, 현재 플로랑스프렌치영화제 감독으로 활동하고 있다.
In 1993 his feature film Abyssinia was selected at The Critics' Week in Cannes and won the Davide di Donatello Award for the Best First Feature film. Abyssinia was also in the official selection at Sundance Film Festival. In 1998 he directed Branchie based on the novel by Niccolò Ammaniti. The film was selected at Venice Film Festival. In 2007 he was among the directors involved in the documentary project Lettere dalla Palestina. The film was presented in the official selection at the Berlin Film Festival. In 2012 he directed the documentary Furio Scarpelli: Il Racconto Prima di Tutto about one of the most important Italian scriptwriters. The documentary was presented at the Torino Film Festival and was nominated at the Nastri d’Argento. He is currently director of the Florence French Film Festival, France Odeon. Martinotti has been member of the EFA Board from 2009 to 2011.
