시놉시스Synopsis
황량한 사막 한가운데 자리 잡은 초라한 ‘바그다드 카페’. 커피 머신은 고장 난 지 오래고, 먼지투성이 카페의 손님은 사막을 지나치는 트럭 운전사들뿐이다. 무능하고 게으른 남편을 쫓아낸 카페 주인 브렌다 앞에, 남편에게 버림받은 야스민이 찾아온다. 최악의 상황에서 만난 두 사람, 모든 것이 불편하기만 한 낯선 동거. 그러나 곧 야스민의 작은 마법으로 둘의 관계는 전환점을 맞이한다. 아무런 희망이 보이지 않던 ‘바그다드 카페’도 두 사람의 마법으로 따스하고 행복한 시간이 깃들게 된다.
German tourists Jasmin and her husband fight while driving across the desert. She storms out of the car and makes her way to the isolated truck stop, which is run by the short-tempered Brenda, whose own husband, after an argument out front, is soon to leave as well. Initially suspicious of the foreigner, Brenda eventually befriends Jasmin and allows her to work at the café. The café is visited by an assortment of colorful characters. With an ability to quietly empathize with everyone she meets at the café, helped by a passion for cleaning and performing magic tricks, Jasmin gradually transforms the café and all the people in it.

Percy Adlon is best known for his film Bagdad Café aka Out of Rosenheim. He was born in Munich, June 1, 1935, and grew up in the Bavarian country side between cattle farms. He studied art and theater history, and German literature at Munich's Ludwig-Maximilian University, took acting and singing classes, and was a member of the student theater group. He started his professional career as an actor, became interested in radio work, was a narrator and editor of literature series and a presenter and voice-over actor in television for 10 years. In 1970 he made his first short film for the Bavarian Television, followed by more than 150 documentary films about art and the human condition. He is associated with the New German Cinema movement, whose members also include Werner Herzog and the illustrious Rainer Werner Fassbinder.
