시놉시스Synopsis
그리 멀지 않은 과거에는 모든 음식이 현지에서 생산되었다. 하지만 오늘날 우리의 음식은 하이퍼글로벌(Hyperglobal)이다. 우리가 어디에 있든 세계 어디서든 음식을 구할 수 있다. 세계 인구의 절반 이상이 도시에 살고 있는 현재, 하이퍼로컬(hyper-local)로 돌아간다면 어떻게 될까? 영화감독 매트와 라스는 뉴욕 시 5개 구 안에서 구할 수 있는 식재료들만 사용해서 여덟 명을 위한 4코스의 음식을 준비하는 도전에 나선다.
In the not-too-distant past, all food was local. Today our food is hyper-global: wherever you are, you can get your food from any corner of the world. What might a return to hyper-localism look like today, now that more than half the world’s population live in cities? In Food City, the filmmakers, Matt and Lars endeavor to find out by challenging themselves to serve a four-course meal for eight people - using only ingredients grown, caught, or foraged from within the five boroughs of New York City.
감독Director
매튜와 라스는 2011년 뉴욕시티칼리지의 마스터 프로그램에서 만났다.
매튜는 어려서부터 영화제작에 대한 큰 관심으로 뉴욕시티제작사의 편집자로 일하게 되었고, 그 후 뉴욕, 파리, 아부다비 등지에서 뉴욕필름아카데미의 후반 작업 관리자 및 편집 강사로 활동했다. 영화 제작을 하지 않을 때의 매튜는 지속가능한 농업의 열렬한 추종자로 북부 뉴욕주의 여러 농장에서 자원 활동을 한다.
라스는 덴마크에서 태어났으나 아주 어려서 미국으로 온 이후 뉴욕에서 살고 있다. 영화 연출에 집중하기 전에는 유럽 및 아시아 지역에서 이십 년 이상 영화 및 텔레비전 편집자로 활동했다. 첫 단편 다큐멘터리인 <i live In Life>는 여러 영화제에서 단편 다큐멘터리상을 수상한 바 있다.
Matthew & Lars met at a Master's program at the City College of New York in 2011.
Matthew had a strong interest in filmmaking from an early age, leading him to work as an editor at a New York City production company and subsequently as an instructor of editing and postproduction supervisor at the New York Film Academy in New York, Paris, and Abu Dhabi. When not immersed in filmmaking Matthew is an avid supporter of sustainable agriculture and has volunteered on several farms in upstate New York.
Lars came from Denmark to the United States as an infant in the 60’s, and has made New York City his home ever since. Before focusing on directing, he amassed over twenty years’ experience as a film and television editor, much of it in Europe and Asia. His own short documentary, i live In Life has won several best short documentary prizes at festivals.
