Opening Film

Food on Film - Early Encounters

The 2nd Seoul International Food Film Festival opens under the banner of “Food on Film – Early Encounters” with a series of three classic silent short films from the legendary directors and actors who laid the foundation of cinema, including the works of The Freres Lumieres, Georges Melies, Roscoe Arbuckle, and Buster Keaton, and each will be screened accompanied by a live musical/orchestral performance. These three films are Louis Lumiere’s “Baby’s Dinner” (1895), Georges Melies’s “The Cook in Trouble,” (1904) and Roscoe Arbuckle’s “The Cook” (1918).
Following these three films, ‘Food on Film – Early Encounters’ will please an even more diverse palette by screening special dining sections taken from the silent works of Charlie Chaplin, including “The Kid” (1921) and “The Gold Rush” (1925). The reenactment of the images and stories of the earliest days of cinema, accompanied by a live musical/orchestral performance, this year’s opening film screening gives audiences a chance to chew over the meaning of one of the foundations of life itself - what it means to eat.
